In 2011 I began a two year stint as Music Director and Conductor of the Shanghai International Choral League, a consortium of choirs with different constituencies ranging from native Chinese to Expatriates from many different countries. All of the choirs participating were comprised of amateur singers with various levels of experience. The SICL affords these singers the opportunity to come together twice a year and pool their resources to rehearse and perform great works for chorus and orchestra from the Western classical choral tradition.
The choir rehearses at least once a week for about two months before rehearsing with the orchestra. The orchestra is comprised of local musicians, many of whom are students who study at the local conservatory of music or are graduates and make their living as teachers in and around Shanghai.
